TE David Njoku (10.6.21)
On how big of a statement the Browns three TE set has made and his comfort with it:
“A big statement. I think we are playing very well in the tight end room. We just have to keep doing what we do every week, and we will be alright.”
On the Chargers defense:
“It is a great front. You have really big, athletic players on their front. You have great safeties. It is going to be a good matchup overall.”
On how much potential there is in the pass game for him against the Chargers:
“I think there is potential every week in the passing game. We have very exceptional athletes in the tight end room, as well as in the receivers room. We just have to continue to put the work in every week, and it will be OK.”
On if he expects T Jedrick Wills Jr. to play this week:
“I hope so, but I do not know anything yet.”
On what he and the offense can do to help QB Baker Mayfield get back on track after last week’s game:
“Just keep picking all of our teammates up. Obviously, every game is not going to be perfect for any of us. We just have to keep being there for each other and keep working hard together, and everything will work out.”
On what areas of his game he takes pride in, in addition to his size:
“I try to better myself in all aspects of being a tight end. The dirty work, the blocking, the catching and the route running, everything that it takes to be elite, I want to better myself.”
On if he enjoys blocking and helping a specific player get extra ‘dirty yards’ in the running game:
“We have great running backs in (RBs) Kareem (Hunt) and Nick (Chubb) so it is always fun to block for them, and if you miss a block or whatever, they can bail you out by making someone miss.”
