S John Johnson III (9.5.22)

On the state of the Browns defense is and if it is in the best possible shape to start the season:

“The best possible shape to start the season? It is never perfect, but I think we are in a good place. We have a lot of bonus days to get ready for this one so I think we are in a good place.”

On if he has started watching Panthers film yet and facing former Browns and Panthers QB Baker Mayfield in the season opener:

“I caught a few of those preseason games live, actually. I have watched a couple of things, just stuff you see on social media, stuff like that. We are going to put together a good plan. Like I said, we have a couple of bonus days so that helps us. I think we will be ready.”

On if Mayfield looks different playing QB with the Panthers:

“I do not think so. It is hard to tell. He got a few snaps. It is hard to tell. I am going to back and watch some more. Really the preseason is all we have.”

On if Mayfield’s mechanics look different at all after working with a new QB coach this offseason:

“I am no quarterback expert or anything like that (laughter). Like I said, we have a couple of plays to go off of. We are going to study them to death and then just go out there and compete.”

On reports last week saying Mayfield commented about what he wanted to do to the Browns in Week 1, which he said were inaccurate, and if the Browns defense will use it as motivation:

“I feel like we are going to prepare like how we always prepare. It is Week 1. We have to win the opener. We have to go 1-0 – that is what everyone wants to do. Half of the teams are going to start with a win and half of the teams are going to start with a loss. We want to be that team that has a W. Our preparation is not going to change.”
