S John Johnson III (7.29.21)
S John Johnson III:
On the first day of training camp and seeing his teammates in action:
“I am just happy to be here. We have a great team – competitors. We are just having fun with it. I think the first day was a successful training camp – just helmets; I can’t wait to put the pads on. It is a lot of fun, and it is a lot of hard work being done.”
On working with Ss Grant Delpit and Ronnie Harrison Jr.:
“Both of those guys are smart players. Everyone knows that they can do everything. You can move them all around, versatile and athletes. I think the thing is just the work ethic. Grant sitting back from that injury, and he is going to be a big part of the defense this year. Ronnie is just exceptional. I do not know how a team did not lock him in for a long time. Hopefully, that will happen. We are just going to go out there and have fun. Hopefully, all three of us can put in a lot of work for the team.”
On defensive coordinator Joe Woods potentially using more nickel packages this season and three safety looks:
“That is what the league is coming to. It is a speed league. It is a passing league, and you need guys that can cover. Week 1 is the biggest example against Kansas City. We are going to try to keep working at it, get really really great at technique and fundamentals and our scheme and go from there.”
On when does preparation for the Chiefs’ game begins:
“Right now, we are just working on fundamentals, technique and getting back to the basics. You kind of have to inchworm your way through training camp, but I think once the pads come on, we will dive in a little bit more.”
