S Grant Delpit (7.30.22)
On reaction to S John Johnson III stating he has great potential and could become one of the best Ss in the NFL:
“It feels great to get high praise from teammates. I have nothing but high praise for him, too. I like to sit back, work and do me and let my play do the talking. Anybody who is doubting us or whatever, I am not really worried about that. I am worried about what we do on the field. We are very excited to see it.”
On how his leadership has developed as he has played more:
“I like to keep a smile on my face. Keep the energy up in the building. Be friends with everybody and make sure I know what is going on, and if they have any problems on or off the field, I am making sure everybody is on the same page. I try to be that guy in the locker room who is always in a positive mood.”
On if he finally feels like he is no longer a rookie, given the playing time he has received after sustaining injuries early in his career:
“Yeah, I am way past that (laughter). Not a rookie.”
On if last season to a degree was a second rookie season due to the injuries:
“Football is football at the end of the day but in the league is different. Getting that first year under my belt, it is good to get a couple of games under your belt and a whole year to build some momentum going into this year.”
On if he can help the Browns produce more takeaways:
“Yeah, I have high goals for myself. The defense did not get enough takeaways last year. We definitely need to improve that. Opportunities come to you, make the play.”
