RBs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt (9.14.22)

On the hype video released on Chubb’s Instagram before the game last Sunday generating positive reactions from fans:

Chubb: “Yeah, it did well. I had a friend from home who brought me the idea so we went for it over the offseason.”

On if the Instagram video was in the works for months:

Chubb: “Yeah, it has been months.”

On not playing in the preseason and having success running the ball in Week 1:

Chubb: “I feel all of it, I think Kareem does, too. We are like really sore right now, but we did what we had to do and the plan worked. We were able to run the ball really well and pass off of that, and it got us the win.”

On if losing games early in his career took a toll on him, given the message of his Instagram video:

Chubb: “Just overall, I think Cleveland as a city itself has tired of all the losing and kind of me the same way. Coming here, I wanted it to kind of change, and it did not come so I think that is just overall just how I felt.”

On why not playing in the preseason did not affect them:

Hunt: “We did a good job of running extra and getting our work in at practice and stuff. I feel like that kept us fresh, and we were able to come out there with fresh legs and just run.”

On if the ‘best is yet to come’ for them together and individually:

Hunt: “Most definitely. I think the best is yet to come for the whole team. We have some guys who are hungry to win. That is the biggest thing. We don’t have to listen to anybody talking about how bad the Browns are going to be this year and stuff like that. We just let it go in one ear and out the other.”

On the two of them playing offensive snaps on the same time, including plays where they both ran routes, and the package being more than just a running formation:

Hunt: “Right. That is just a different opportunity to get the ball in space and stuff like that. When you are out there, you have to be able to have your playmakers touch the ball even when it is a pass or anything like that because I know if you check it down and throw it to Nick on something, he can turn it into 20 yards or 15 yards, and I feel like I can do the same on the check-down.”

On 112 of 141 rushing yards coming after contact:

Chubb: “That is part of our offense. Everyone knows we are a run-first team. It is not a secret, and that is what we pride ourselves on. The O line does a great job up front. After that, it is up to me and Kareem to break tackle and get the extra dirty yards. I think that is something we both do well.”

On if he knows what he is doing on the field or if he is wowed when watching it on film:

Chubb: “For me, I do not know what is happening. I just kind of do whatever I feel and that is an instinct. When I watch film, I guess I do see and I do not remember doing it.”

On the blocking on his 24-yard TD run:

Hunt: “Honestly, it was blocked well. I saw the middle was light so I just hit it as hard as I could and just kept running.”
