Quarterbacks Coach Drew Petzing (8.24.22)

On the main benefits of joint practices with the Eagles for the Browns QBs:

“I think one of the biggest things is just getting a look at a different defense – different alignments, different fronts and different coverages. When we run the same routes, we are going to get a different response or maybe a different read. I think there is huge value in that for those guys throughout those couple of days practicing with Philadelphia.”

On QB Jacoby Brissett having a month to prepare as the starting QB for Week 1 and how Brissett’s career experience of starting games with little to no notice can be beneficial:

“He does such a great job of learning from every rep and every meeting so I imagine that his experience when he was not in this building of having to do that has prepared him for every opportunity, whether it is a month’s notice or a day’s notice, as you kind of said. He does such a great job of understanding the game and visualizing the game and has had so much experience in the game. Certainly, I think he takes that with him in this role as he has joined this team and been a positive member of it.”

On the biggest area of improvement for the Browns QBs during training camp and preseason:

“I think the biggest thing – other than just getting a feel for the guys, throwing routes and a lot of the RVA-type stuff – is the language and the new offense of getting in and out of the huddle, getting the play calls, knowing where the motions are and using the cadence so that they can focus on some of the other details, rather than like, ‘What is the read? What formation are we in?’ and kind of those things.”

On Brissett in the QB meeting room:

“He is awesome. He is the same person every day. Whether it is on the field, in the meeting room or even outside of the building, he is quiet, focused and confident. I think the guys have a lot of faith in him. He is a lot of fun to be around. It has been really fun working with him.”

On teammates commenting on Brissett’s humor and if Brissett helps keep the mood pretty light in the meeting rooms:

“Oh yeah, for sure. It is a little bit sarcastic like myself so I certainly appreciate that. He has been awesome. He has been great.”

On what the Browns have learned about QB Joshua Dobbs since joining the team:

“I don’t know if it is something that I didn’t know, but it is fun to see him go out and do it in a game experience. The athleticism, the confidence and the ability to operate the offense at a high level has certainly been something that I excepted to see, but it is always great when you can confirm that with some evidence. I think that has been really great. He takes the job really seriously. I think football means a lot to him. He works really hard at it. Certainly, that has been fun over these last couple of weeks.”
