Pass game coordinator/WRs coach Chad O’Shea (8.4.21)

On the talent among the Browns WRs group:

“I feel like this group is very competitive. That has been something that has been very encouraging for us as a coaching staff is to see them here at the beginning of training camp and go out and be very competitive. We are asking guys to do as many things as they can. The more things they can do, the more role they will have for us and the more value they will have to contribute for us to win on offense. It has been very competitive. We are real excited as we go through training camp just to see how they improve and progress.”

On if he is impressed by how WR Odell Beckham Jr. has performed in training camp:

“I have been very impressed with Odell’s work ethic and the way he has approached this training camp. We have had to opportunity to work with him on the field. (QB) Baker (Mayfield) has had the opportunity to work with him, and they have worked very well together. I just continue to see a guy who is making the most of his opportunities here and wants to contribute very badly to us as a team. He understands that it is going to require a lot of work, and he certainly has done that.”

On how WR Donovan Peoples-Jones looks in his second year:

“Anytime a player is a second-year player, there should be a jump. It is his second lap around the track. He has done an outstanding job of putting himself in position to have the opportunity to contribute here because of his work ethic. Last year, I was so impressed with his ability to function mentally across a lot of different positions. Certainly, I think that adds value to a player when you can line up at different spots and be a multiple-role player, that is going to increase your opportunities. I would say thus far in camp, like some other guys in the receiving group, he has made the most of his opportunities.”

On Peoples-Jones’ personality:

“Extremely impressive guy Donovan is. He has great professionalism. He works extremely hard. He is outstanding in his assignment. He is somebody who just does not say a lot. He goes out there and does it by his actions. I have been very impressed with the way he has worked.”

On the importance of Mayfield and the Browns WRs getting more reps together in training camp:

“It is extremely important in the pass game for those guys to work together. They have had the opportunity to work together, and they have really worked very hard. We have had great sessions not only on the field, but in the classroom setting, we have had great dialogue and communication between the quarterbacks and the receivers. It is all about coming out here, working and making sure that we execute the play exactly how we each see it and want it done.”
