LB Jacob Phillips (8.24.22)
On training camp thus far:
“Camp has been going great so far. I feel like as a defense, every day we are coming out here competing. We are running fast and moving fast. Everybody is putting forth effort, and I think it is showing when we get out here on the practice field so far.”
On if this portion of camp is the toughest both physically and mentally:
“This is kind of like where it eases up. We are not in the full camp schedule right now so we are kind of in our regular season schedule where you have shorter meetings and more time at home. I think we are out of the dog days [of training camp] for now.”
On his interception during joint practices with the Eagles:
“When the back chips and goes across, head to the dig window – they like throwing deeper digs, daggers and different things like that. When you have my size, I feel like it really helps in that covering the safeties and covering the corners when I can get in those windows and make plays.”
On if he was giving LB Anthony Walker Jr. and LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah a hard time that he made a takeaway during joint practices and they did not:
“I was just waiting on theirs. (Defensive coordinator) Coach (Joe) Woods always says everything comes in three so we are still waiting on them.”
On what makes QB Jacoby Brissett such a great teammate:
“I think just coming here and being the same person every single day, you can account for how to gauge somebody when they are the same person every day. I think he does a great job of that, rather than when he came in and it was (QB) Deshaun (Watson) and now obviously with the suspension. I think that he is going to lead us in the right direction.”
