LB Anthony Walker Jr. (5.25.22)

On how much more comfortable he feels this offseason:

“You go into a new system last year, you kind of try to take it in as a rookie learning a new system, being around new guys in the locker room and everything like that. Obviously, going into that second year with a lot of the same faces… Going into that second year, confidence, knowledge of the game, knowledge of the system and being able to work well with the guys in the room and on the defense. Definitely feel more confident and more comfortable going into Year 2.”

On how much being comfortable in the defense played into his return to Cleveland this season:

“A huge role. A huge role.”

On his number change from No. 4 to No. 5:

“(QB) Deshaun (Watson) said he was coming to Cleveland. I texted him 10 seconds later and said, ‘Welcome to Cleveland, No. 4.’ That was it.”

On if the gift Watson gave him was from the number change:

“We will keep that on the hush.”

On his impressions of Watson as a teammate, including their trash talk between one another:

“Obviously, playing against him when I was in Indy three out of the four years I was there playing him six times, he will not tell you, but I have won more (laughter). Going against a competitor, a guy that loves the game of football, an elite playmaker, an elite quarterback, it is going to be a lot of trash talk during OTAs, during minicamp and also during training camp. At the end of the day, we are working towards a common goal, and that is being Super Bowl champs at the end of the year. We are going to push each other to get there.”
