Head Coach Kevin Stefanski (12.30.22)

Opening statement:

“Good work week. Good to be outside. Excited for the challenge of this week.”

On T Jedrick Wills Jr.’s progress with the back injury this week, given Wills was listed with no injury designation and is expected to play on Sunday:

“I thought he looked good. He looked like himself. Obviously, with any injury, you are always trying to be smart and make sure he gets the rehab and gets the work he has to get done, but he looks good.”

On DE Jadeveon Clowney being listed as questionable for Sunday’s game due to concussion/illness:

“He has not been cleared [in the concussion protocol] yet so just going to wait on that.”

On how DE Myles Garrett has been this week and if there have been any residual effects following not playing the first defensive series last game:

“No. He has done a nice job. Been good.”

On if the Browns are optimistic Clowney will clear concussion protocol in time to play in Sunday’s game:

“It is so hard to say with the concussion protocol. Really just have to wait for the doctors.”

On DE Alex Wright playing a lot this season as a rookie and Wright’s performance and development:

“He has played a lot. He is a young player for us who you never know how much those young guys are going to be able to play and how much they can handle early. He has done a nice job right from the jump playing early in this season. He has played a lot of reps so he battling through nicks, bruises and those type of things. I just see a young player, who is a young man first of all, getting great reps and he is getting better in his technique. I think he is progressing. You are right, he is getting a lot of opportunities.”

On the challenge for Wills and the Browns OL opposing Commanders DE Chase Young:

“All of their defensive line[men] are a challenge, truly. I think it is a great challenge for us up front in the run and the pass. They have so many players, and they play a lot of guys that they can wave. I don’t think it is one player’s challenge, per se. You mentioned their defensive ends, they can rush with power, they can rush with speed and they have length. All of it is a challenge.”

On evaluating Wills’ performance and consistency this season:

“Like any young player, he is always striving for consistency. I think he has had some really, really good moments. Has been able to stay healthy for a vast majority of it. Again, a young player who is progressing.”

On if the Browns enter the final two games with an intent of wanting to help RB Nick Chubb earn the NFL rushing title:

“We talk about this a lot where it is a great team game, but there are individual accolades and there are individual things that guys get recognized for. When guys get recognized for the Pro Bowl, you are excited for them. Obviously, it is an individual achievement, but it does fall into the framework of the team. If that is something that were to happen, I think it would be great for Nick, but it is great for the offense, great for the offensive line and all of those guys sharing individual achievements.”
