Head Coach Freddie Kitchens:
Opening statement:
“Continuing to prepare for San Francisco and all of the difficulties they present. I thought we had a good day of meetings and a good day on the practice field.”
On how WR Jarvis Landry looked in practice after being cleared from concussion protocol:
“Really glad to get him back. He is an integral part of the offense, and it is good to have him back. He looked like Jarvis.”
On updates on the status of CBs Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams:
“They are still kind of day to day. We do not really have anything to report on those guys.”
On WRs Antonio Callaway and Rashard Higgins:
“I think they are both coming along. Callaway looks good. He needs to continue to try and build his endurance. There is a difference between endurance and in shape. He is in good shape, but endurance is being able to play play after play after play after play, and you need endurance more than anything in the game of football. Higgins is getting better. He continues to get better each and every day. He made it a little further along today so we will see where we are.”
On if Higgins will return this week:
“I could not even start to answer that yet.”
On when the Browns must make a roster move to activate Callaway and a corresponding move:
“That is more of (General Manager) John’s (Dorsey) question, but I do not think we have to make it until Monday. I am not sure though. Definitely Saturday, Sunday or Monday, one of those. Sometime before the game starts.”
On if Callaway has displayed any lingering effects from his ankle injury:
“No, I am good with where Callaway is right now.”
On having all Browns WRs practicing together for the first time this season:
“It is always nice to get two of your guys back, but I think those other guys have filled in and done well. I think we have the luxury of having several guys that can play. Definitely, it is good to having Antonio and Hig as close as we are to having Hig back.”
On 49ers TE George Kittle:
“He gets open a bunch. It seems like he is always finding windows. He is a great zone guy, and then he can beat you athletically, too. He has been very successful up to this point this year. Anytime you have a guy that can find open windows in zone and kind of has a knack for it, they present a lot of problems.”
On if officials tend to look for holding on WRs more after a coach mentions it is happening:
“Hopefully. Hopefully, they do. Honestly, I don’t think it has ever been as hard ever to be an official. They are under such scrutiny every week. You have more instant replays than ever before and more second-guessing than ever before. They have a tough job. I just know that (WR) Odell (Beckham, Jr.) gets held. He has gotten some called, but I would always like more of them called. They have a tough job with what they do with the scrutiny they are under on a week-to-week basis and a play-to-play basis. You watch that game last night, and it was like every time something happens, somebody wants to second-guess an official. It has never been harder to be an official.”
