DE Myles Garrett (12.9.22)

On if the Bengals double team or chip him less frequently than other opponents:

“In comparison to some other teams we have played this year, yeah, they don’t do it as much. They still do it, especially more on the right side with (Bengals T) La’el (Collins). They give us our opportunities.”

On if not receiving doubles or chips is why he has performed well against the Bengals:

“I am just able to adjust to what they are throwing at me, even some of the plays I made last game came off of when there was a chip coming my way or a double team coming my way. Just being able to find a way around it. Sometimes it is tougher than others. This last game, I was able to do it at a higher clip. Got to look forward to doing it the same way.

On what Bengals QB Joe Burrow does to bring out the best in him:

“I don’t think it is anything he is doing specifically. I think he is just a great player in himself. You want to be able to match that same intensity and exceed it. You want to be able to put your stamp on the game. Someone who is playing at that level and a team who is playing that well – he is playing at an MVP caliber – just being able to say that we got one up on not only him but them, it is a good feeling.”

On the challenge beating a division opponent twice in the same season:

“It is tough. You come back a little bit differently. That first 15 is going to be different. They are always going to have a different plan for us, especially defensively. You can’t change who you are, can’t change your DNA and what you are good at. Just to be able to weather the storm of the new plans that they have for us and being able to attack them where we know they are weak.”

On if a rivalry has brewed between the Browns and Bengals in recent years:

“A little bit. I feel like we both have improved a lot since I have been here. They have gone on to a Super Bowl, and we have gone to the playoffs for the first time in a long while. We both have been picking it up and doing better. I think that coming from the bottom and starting from the bottom and trying to scrap it out and see who is going to make it is a little bit different. I feel like those guys in Pittsburgh and Baltimore, they kind of always feel like they are going to be at the top. I feel like where we are, we are trying to take over.”

On what impresses him most about Burrow:

“The answer is cool. He is always relaxed. Up or down whether they are losing or winning, he has that same demeanor and that same swagger and is going to get the job done. He never feels the heat of the situation. As a D lineman, you want to apply pressure. I feel like he applies pressure by always staying locked in on the moment.”

On if Burrow is running more often than past seasons:

“We saw it last year when we played against them where he has that ability to scramble out of the pocket and make plays. We just have to make sure we keep some rush integrity. He is no slouch when he gets out there and gets moving. Make sure we are keeping him in the pocket as best as we can and get some deflections.”
