CB Greg Newsome II (7.28.21)

CB Greg Newsome II:

On his first impressions and what he is looking forward to during his first day of training camp:

“It just feels good to see everybody come together as one. It was great to get out here with the guys. I just can’t wait for the season to get started.”

On the biggest transition going through OTAs and minicamp:

“I would say the hardest transition was honestly probably just learning the new calls and coverages. Coverages do not really change from college to the NFL, but the terminology and things like that change. Just getting that down and getting comfortable with that so I am able to go out there and play fast.”

On the biggest piece of advice he has received and who shared it:

“(CB) Troy Hill, he is a guy that I am looking forward to (playing with) that I am talking to all the time. He just tells me to have fun, watch a lot of film and study because at the end of the day when you are comfortable out there, that is when you are going to be able to play your loosest and that is when you are going to be able to play your fastest.”

On if he is looking forward to practicing against WRs Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. and if that will immediately benefit him:

“For sure, those are arguably two of the best receivers in the whole entire NFL so playing against them and practicing against them each week will definitely prepare me for whoever I have to guard going into the upcoming game week. It will definitely be great practicing against those guys.”

On if he considers himself in a competition for a starting job:

“Oh yeah, for sure.  Nothing is given. Everything is earned. At this point, I am trying to learn from some of those older guys like (CB) Greedy (Williams), (CB) Denzel (Ward) and Troy, and just learn the coverages, go out there and try to compete as best as I can. Whatever coach needs me to do, that is what I am going to have to do.”
