CB Greg Newsome II (1.4.23)

On his reaction to the challenging situation with Bills S Damar Hamlin:

“Obviously, I give my condolences to him and his family. It is heartbreaking. Obviously, I didn’t know him personally, but I can only imagine what his family is going through and his teammates are going through. Keep them close to him. It is definitely a scary, scary sight.”

On if it has been difficult to think about football after what happened to Hamlin:

“For sure. Especially when one of your fellow players goes down with an injury like that that is life-threatening, it is definitely hard.”

On if conversations in the building are different today given the challenging circumstances with Hamlin:

“I would just say guys are talking about it – talking about it between each other and just praying and just hoping that he wakes up.”

On what went through his head after seeing what Hamlin experienced after what appeared to be a mostly routine hit, particularly as a DB:

“It was kind just like you said, helmet went to his chest. Nothing really goes through my mind head wise. It is just seeing him go down was kind of on my mind. The hit is not really [on my mind].”

On if it crossed his mind that an in-game situation like that could occur to him as a DB:

“For sure, but I kind of try not to think like that. I don’t like thinking negatively. Obviously, that could have happened to anybody so that is the scary part. One play away. You can see that it can almost take your life.”

On the outpouring of support for Hamlin, including to his GoFundMe that has reached more than $6M:

“It just shows that outside people are starting to see that we aren’t just football players; we are humans. I feel like an event like that and what happened shows that we are humans fist. I am glad that they stopped the game. It just shows that we are humans, and we try to go out there and put on a show, but at the end of the day, our safety and our life matters.”
