RB Nick Chubb Voted Browns 2024 Ed Block Courage Award Recipient

BEREA, Ohio – Cleveland Browns’ RB Nick Chubb has been selected by his teammates as the Browns 2024 Ed Block Courage Award recipient. The Ed Block Courage Award is given annually to a member of each of the 32 NFL teams who best exemplifies the qualities of Ed Block – the former head athletic trainer of the Baltimore Colts – based on courage, compassion, commitment and community. Chubb was previously named the Browns Ed Block Award winner in 2020.

“I want to thank Joe Sheehan and Pat Rock from our training staff, strength and conditioning coach Dale Jones, Dr. Voos at University Hospitals and my teammates for doing a great job being there for me and pushing me throughout the process of my recovery”, said Browns RB Nick Chubb. “It was an uphill battle every day because when you get hurt – it’s one thing – but when you get hurt again, you already know what you must go through with the entire process of surgery and rehab. And I am extremely grateful to get to this point and be back on the field with my teammates doing what I’ve loved to do since I was a kid.”

During the 2023 season when the Browns faced the Steelers in Week 2 at Pittsburgh, Chubb suffered a season-ending knee injury during the second quarter. In the months following his injury, Chubb underwent two successful surgeries at University Hospitals to repair his knee and began his rehabilitation to return to the field. After over a yearlong recovery process, Chubb made his return in Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals at Huntington Bank Field, rushing for 22 yards and one touchdown.

Since being drafted by the Browns in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Chubb has rushed for 6,802 yards with 51 rushing touchdowns, earning four consecutive Pro Bowl selections (2019-22). Despite missing nearly all of the 2023 season, Chubb ranks second among all running backs in the league in rushing yards since 2018. Chubb also ranks among the Browns all-time leaders in rush average (second), rushing yards (third) and rushing touchdowns (third).

Each NFL team participating in the Ed Block Courage Award Foundation program selects a “Courage House” that supports victims of abuse, violence and neglect. The Browns’ Courage House is Providence House, a crisis nursery committed to child abuse prevention and family preservation in the Cleveland area. With this honor, Chubb becomes an Ambassador of Courage for victims of abuse, violence and neglect.

Chubb has also been active in Browns Give Back’s efforts in the Northeast Ohio community and the team’s commitment to education, youth football and social justice. Throughout the year, he has participated in various events such as supporting local high school athletes, welcoming special guests to CrossCountry Mortgage Campus, and the annual Cleveland Browns Foundation Golf Outing which supports the Stay in the Game! Attendance Network’s fight against chronic absenteeism.

Chubb will be recognized as the Browns’ Ed Block Courage Award recipient during Providence House’s 25th Annual Deck the House Benefit Auction at Huntington Bank Field on Tuesday, Dec. 10th beginning at 6 p.m.

Providence House’s Deck the House and the 2024 Ed Block Courage Award presentation are highlights of Browns Give Back’s “Month of Giving.” Throughout the month of December, Browns players, coaches and staff are participating in special community events and making meaningful contributions to deserving organizations and individuals as part of the team’s yearlong commitment to promoting education, youth football and social justice, as well as inspiring others through the signature First and Ten volunteering movement.

Deck the House is Providence House’s annual fundraiser which protects at-risk children and supports families through crisis, strengthening communities to end child abuse and neglect. For more information, visit www.provhouse.org.
