BEREA, Ohio – A pair of Cleveland Browns earned league awards as the NFL named DE Myles Garrett AFC Defensive Player of the Month and LB Carson Schwesinger NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for November.
Garrett led all NFL players with nine sacks for the month and tied for the league lead with 13 TFLs despite the Browns only playing four games. He was the only NFL player to record at least one sack in each game in November and the only NFL player to record multiple TFLs in every game. He anchored a defense that allowed 260.0 yards per game in November, the second fewest in the NFL. Garrett also set an NFL record for most sacks over a five-game span (14, passing Michael Strahan’s 12.5 in 2001) and tied an NFL record with 10 sacks over a three-game span. Garrett leads the NFL in sacks (19) and TFLs (28) this season.
Schwesinger led all NFL rookies with 39 tackles and six TFLs for the month despite the Browns only playing four games. He was the only NFL rookie to record at least one TFL in each game in November. Schwesinger added one interception and half of a sack and was the only rookie to record an interception and at least half of a sack in November. He recorded double-digit tackles in three consecutive games in November, the most by any NFL rookie this month. This season, Schwesinger leads all NFL rookies in tackles (99) and TFLs (10) and is tied for second in interceptions (two).
Schwesinger joins CB Joe Haden (November 2010) as the only Browns to win NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month since the award began in 1996. This is Garrett’s second AFC Defensive Player of the Month award as he also earned the honor in October 2020.
