Nike Kickoff Classic continues this Friday with HSGOTW Week 1 Matchup

BEREA, Ohio – In an ongoing effort to celebrate Play Football Month and highlight the passion that exists for youth football across Northeast Ohio, the Cleveland Browns are excited to announce the return of the Cleveland Browns High School Game of the Week (HSGOTW) for the 14th consecutive season.

Starting this week and continuing through the 2023 high school football season, the Browns, with the assistance of the High School Game of the Week panelists, will select one high school football game in Northeast Ohio to be featured as the High School Game of the Week, presented by Ohio CAT and in association with Foreverlawn.

Each week, four panelists from the Browns organization will nominate a game for the HSGOTW poll, where fans can then vote to determine which match-up will be featured. The winning match-up will receive extended game coverage across the Browns’ website and social media channels.

The winning team from each Game of the Week during the 10 weeks of the high school football regular season will receive $2,500 for their program. At the conclusion of the season, the Browns will announce the High School Coach of the Year, who will earn an additional $5,000 for their program.

The first High School Game of the Week featured matchup will also be a part of the Nike Kickoff Classic. The collaboration between Nike, the NFL and clubs allows each of the participating boys and girls high school teams to have a shared kickoff experience in their local markets.

Part one of the Kickoff Classic featured four girls high school flag football teams that competed during halftime of the Browns—Commanders preseason game on Aug. 11. The exhibition matchups included Mentor—Bedford and Hawkens—Warrensville Heights.

The Kickoff Classic will conclude with the Euclid—Austintown-Fitch game on Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. at Euclid High School. Both teams will also receive $2,500 for their program for participating in the Kickoff Classic.

“Youth and high school football programming is a priority for the Cleveland Browns. We’re excited to give local high school teams an additional platform for gameday coverage and support this football season with the return of the High School Game of the Week,” said Cleveland Browns Vice President of Community Relations Jenner Tekancic. “Since the program began, nearly eight million votes have been submitted by fans and community members in support of the youth football athletes across Northeast Ohio.”
