Contribution supports installment of two synthetic turf practice fields

BEREA, Ohio – During Day 7 of “10 Days of Giving,” the Browns are proud to announce that Akron’s Archbishop Hoban High School will install two new synthetic turf practice fields, thanks in part to a recent $250,000 grant made possible through the Browns and NFL Foundation Grassroots Program.

The grant from the Browns, NFL Foundation and Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) to Archbishop Hoban is part of $3 million in field refurbishment awards allocated nationwide this year.

Last year, Toledo’s Roy C. Start High School was also a beneficiary of the NFL Foundation Grassroots Program, allowing for the installment of a high-quality synthetic turf field on campus.

Through Browns Give Back, the Cleveland Browns are committed to assisting the development, safety and growth of youth and high school football throughout Northeast Ohio with year-round programming for players, coaches, officials and parents. Through camps, clinics and other initiatives, the Browns’ goal is to promote healthy, social, emotional, intellectual and physical development of youth by enhancing opportunities for youth football participation and education.

Throughout “10 Days of Giving,” spanning Dec. 8-17, Browns players, coaches and staff will host unique community events and make special contributions to various organizations during the holiday season as part of the team’s yearlong commitment to education, youth football and inspiring others through its signature First and Ten volunteer movement.

The extended week of community engagement, initially inspired by the Browns’ signature #give10 First and Ten volunteer movement, has expanded in recent years to fully encompass the team’s commitment to supporting school attendance in Ohio through the “Get 2 School, Stay in the Game!” Network and Cleveland’s yearlong efforts to enhance youth and high school football throughout the state.

The NFL Foundation/LISC Grassroots Field Grant Program – a partnership between the NFL Foundation and LISC, the nation’s leading community development support organization – has supported the construction or renovation of 376 football fields nationwide since 1998. During that time, the NFL Foundation has granted nearly $61 million to revitalize playing fields in underserved neighborhoods. Fields are newly built or significantly renovated, with improvements such as irrigation systems, lights, bleachers, scoreboards, goal posts and turf. Grassroots grants are issued once established funding thresholds are reached for each project.

LISC identifies local, nonprofit, community-based agencies that have an interest in building or refurbishing football fields in schools and neighborhood parks. Through the program, local agencies are provided with the necessary financing and technical assistance to improve the quality and safety of fields in their communities. The agencies oversee the construction, maintenance and programming of the fields.
