WHAT:                     As part of Browns Give Back’s commitment to education, the Cleveland Browns Foundation and Canton City School District will reward select students with a special bowling celebration on Tuesday, highlighted by a visit and encouraging messages from Browns All-Pro WR Odell Beckham Jr.

 

Through the “Get 2 School, Stay in the Game!” Network, the Browns, Beckham and Canton City School District (CCSD) are encouraging students to get to school every day so that they can succeed in the classroom and prepare for the future. Canton students attending tomorrow’s event, who were selected for their dedication to perfect attendance in recent weeks and overall classroom leadership, will be recognized for their commitment to education while having the opportunity to bowl, one of Beckham’s favorite off-field activities. The Browns, Beckham and CCSD collaborated to create the event and an attendance “competition” to continue to inspire students to come to school every day.

 

The Cleveland Browns Foundation is the signature partner for the Canton City School District’s “Get 2 School, Stay in the Game!” local attendance campaign. The Browns work hand in hand with CCSD to help solve problems and remove barriers of students being chronically absent from school, which is defined as missing 10 percent of a school year for any reason.

 

Studies show that missing even two days a month (about 18 days in a school year) has a significant impact on a child’s learning, as well as their prospects of graduating from high school. The district and its partners, including the Browns, are working to increase awareness of students and parents about the importance of being in school every day and encouraging students to do so. As part of the Get 2 School Network, CCSD is also partnered with Harvard University’s Proving Ground, a policy research group studying the root causes of chronic absenteeism, to help provide support and strategies to combat the problem. After a thorough study conducted by Proving Ground, CCSD implemented two interventions to address chronic absenteeism and is currently involved in a pilot initiative at the high-school level.

 

The Get 2 School Network is designed to connect its users to each other, state and national experts and high-quality attendance-focused campaign materials, strategies and evaluation tools made possible through a partnership between the Cleveland Browns Foundation, Ohio Department of Education and Proving Ground at Harvard University. The Get 2 School Network’s backbone is its website, Get2School.org, which is available to all Ohio schools and districts at no cost.

 

Through Browns Give Back, the Cleveland Browns are dedicated to #give10 through the team’s First and Ten initiative. Launched in June 2014, the Cleveland Browns First and Ten campaign is the team’s community program, established to inspire fans to volunteer in and help their communities throughout the world by volunteering for 10 hours each year.
