CB Martin Emerson Jr. (11.28.22)

On Head Coach Kevin Stefanski’s remarks about his strong mental mindset and competitive nature and the source of it:

“Probably I would say my childhood. just that competitive nature and just always trying to win and compete.”

On his mindset in the fourth quarter and overtime knowing Buccaneers QB Tom Brady likely would target Buccaneers WR Mike Evans against him:

“Just the opportunity to make a play, just do my job and just gain trust from the coaches and my teammates.”

On confidence he could limit Evans in yesterday’s game:

“I feel like I watched a lot of film, and I was very confident going into that game. It was just more about executing. I feel like I did pretty well.”

On a person on social media tweeting that Evans two catches on nine targets and responding that Evans had zero catches against him:

“Yes sir. He made a mistake so I had to correct him.”

On how many times Evans was targeted against him:

“Seven. Every time except for the other two [receptions].”

On if he had brothers or friends who helped build his competitive nature when growing up:

“When I was growing up, we had video games and whatnot, but I always played outside like every day. I always had to be in before the streetlights, but as soon as I got out of school, I was outside. If I wasn’t in football season at practice, I was always outside just playing football. We played this game called ‘throw ‘em up, bust ‘em up’ as a kid, and it was a real physical game. I feel like I got my competitive nature from that environment, as well.”

On where he grew up:

“I grew up in Pensacola, Florida.”

On if there was a moment this season where playing in the NFL was starting to seem more natural or that the game had slowed down for him:

“I couldn’t really just give you one moment. I can just say weekly I have just been myself getting better and just getting my technique down with muscle memory. It is kind of feeling natural. It is coming together.”

On how CBs Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome II have helped him develop as a rookie:

“I am meeting with those guys every day. I try to learn from everybody honestly and everybody that is in the [building]. Pick up on the good things and bad things. They just help me, they guide me and coach me up when I need to be coached up. I just try to soak everything in like a sponge.
