WR Amari Cooper (11.25.22)
On what QB Jacoby Brissett has shown in terms of being a starting QB in the NFL:
“I think he has shown a lot. Just preparing with him each and every game, I can see why he has done some of the things that he has done in this league as far as the communication that we have been able to have and establish throughout the week and the preparation that leads up to the game and just connecting and having to show up on gameday. It has been good for us.”
On how much he appreciates Brissett’s extra efforts behind closed doors and how unusual that is for an NFL starting QB:
“It is not that it is unusual. It is like the saying, ‘It is never what you do. It is how it’s done;’ the detail that he has when he is communicating me to do checks on a certain route and then also the feedback that he wants from me, he is the quarterback. Quarterbacks typically know everything about the offense. It is always cool when they are humble enough to just get my perspective, and he does that all the of time so it has been fun working with him.”
On if there will be a significant for him with QB Deshaun Watson replacing Brissett:
“I am not sure. It is just something we will have to wait and see. Obviously, they are two different quarterbacks and two different people, but that is why we practice. Whatever the transition is, I hope it is a positive one.”
On if he has any examples of him and Brissett talking during the week and the improvements showing up on gameday:
“Yeah, I have a bunch. Most of the third down routes. We talk about damn near every play that is in the gameplan for me. Most of the balls that I catch, we talked about them. We practice them so much – walkthrough, we do two or three walkthroughs and practice every day. Every route that is in the gameplan for me in the week, we have talked about. Obviously, some routes we put more emphasis on talking about like we have a route that we just installed or something like that. Mostly every route.”
On if he will still talk back and forth with Brissett about routes and the gameplan:
“I am sure we will. It is always good to get a quarterback’s perspective and we have already established that communication so yeah, I think so.”
