CB Greg Newsome II (8.31.22)
On if he is ready to play after returning from injury:
“For sure, I will be ready to go.”
On how he sustained the injury and his recovery process:
“It was just running around and just getting tight – camp legs. Just a lot of fatigue I felt a little bit so I decided to go to the trainers, got an MRI and saw that I had a little minor strain. Just been rehabbing. Just trying to stay locked in while my guys are out there going. Now, I feel great. The trainers have done a great job. I will be ready to go Week 1.”
On if it feels different preparing for Week 1 this year compared to his rookie season:
“For sure. Like I said earlier, I feel a lot more confident just going into this Week 1 versus last year. I was confident, but just being a rookie, you do not know what to expect for your first actual real game. Going against Kansas City last year as a rookie, that was big challenge for us. Going into this year, I am just a lot more confident just because I have a bunch of games under my belt now.”
On how much better the Browns defense is now compared to the start of last season:
“I think we are way better. I know people could say, ‘How is that if you have the same players?’ I just feel like we gel a lot more. We know each other more on a personal level. I feel like we trust each other. I feel like we will be able to show that Week 1.”
On Panthers QB Baker Mayfield in a press conference earlier today saying comments about the Browns game in Week 1 were not phrased as they were said and his reaction to the comments both yesterday and today:
“When I first heard it, I did not think anything about it. He is a competitor. We had him last year, and I know how he is as a person. He is a competitor. I did not feel any type of way about it. Him saying that [today] still does not… At the end of the day, we all have to get out there Week 1 and show what we can do. That is what we are going to do Week 1.”
