G Blake Hance (11.3.21)
On preparing to start at RT this week:
“It is nice to be a little focused on one spot. As a backup in the NFL, you have to be able to bounce around everywhere. Just knowing to work on one spot will definitely build some comfort. I have been doing it for a while now so I am feeling comfortable at this spot.”
On the differences between playing on the left side versus the right side of the Browns OL:
“Your feet and hips and stuff get used to going one way, especially in pass blocking you have to readjust and get more used to switching sides. Like I said, as a backup, we are playing both sides every day. At this point, I should be comfortable with that.”
On playing the majority of last week’s game against Steelers LB T.J. Watt as a backup RT:
“You have to prepare like a starter even when you are a backup because as we have seen too often this year, things can change quickly. Especially when you are going against a top player like that, you have to go into the game preparing like a starter and thinking the very first play something could happen, like what happened with (T) Jack (Conklin) unfortunately. You always have to be ready for a situation like that as a backup.”
On his performance last week, specifically against Watt:
“I have to do better against a guy like that. Anything you do poorly, he will use against you. If you have bad feet on a pass set or a bad punch, when you are going against a top player, you have to be perfect. I have to do better to get more points on the board and finish the game better.”
On the challenges when players do not get as many practice reps during the week and then are called upon to play in the game:
“It goes back to everybody being ready to start, whether they are able to practice all week or not. Every guy is a little different. Veteran guys like (C) JC (Tretter), Jack and (G) Joel (Bitonio), these guys have been playing for so long that they still want to practice obviously, but they know their bodies to know how much they need to do to get ready based on how they are feeling that week. For those guys, we trust them to be ready to go on gameday no matter how much they are able to get out there during the week.”
