Run game coordinator/RBs coach Stump Mitchell (8.18.21)
On if the plan is to get RB Demetric Felton reps at RB:
“I think so. It all depends on… We had (WR Ryan) Switzer get hurt in the ball game. He is a pretty much do-it-all type of guy. If a receiver goes down, of course, he is back over there. Hopefully, we will have the opportunity to get him some reps in the game. He is practicing right now with the running backs thus far. Hopefully, everybody will stay healthy wide receiver-wise, and he will have the chance to display his skills.”
On if Felton is practicing with the RBs all week:
“It depends on if a receiver goes down.”
On how Felton has handled splitting his time between RB and WR:
“He has done a fantastic job for the most part. The biggest thing being in the running back room is understanding the protections. That is something that he really has to dive into, as well as doing his stuff from a wide receiver standpoint. He gets to understand the full scheme and concept of the play knowing what everything means being in both rooms.”
On the next step to get RBs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt on the field at the same time:
“Whenever (Head) Coach (Kevin) Stefanski deems it necessary.”
On if Chubb and Hunt could play together more this year:
“I think it can happen, yeah. I think it can happen. You never know. The more toys that Kevin has, the better he is as a play caller. You just never know what is going on in his mind. It is always something creative to kind of catch the defense off guard.”
