WR Jarvis Landry (11.27.20)
WR Jarvis Landry:
On if the Browns offense feels a sense of having more on its shoulders to play complementary shoulders with multiple Browns defensive players out, including DE Myles Garrett and CB Denzel Ward:
“Listen, there are guys that obviously it is unfortunate that we do not have these guys on the field, but guys are going to have to step up and step in and do their job at a high level. As the game goes, who knows how it goes, but as it goes as an offense, we have to do our part and score points. Whatever it comes down to doing as an offense, we will be ready to do. It is definitely a team game, and guys are going to step up and make plays.”
On if the circumstances of this week have put the team on ‘higher alert’ to play a 1-9 Jaguars team:
“We are always on high alert, but this week has been obviously tough, just the limited time and losing guys throughout the week. For us, it is just focusing on the details and making sure that we are double- and triple-checking everything that we want to do to compete with every play and getting the details right with the limited time that we have had practicing and then guys filling in other positions on the defense side, special teams and things like that.”
On if he has ever been through a week like this before:
“I do not think anyone has ever been through a year like this one. We are just kind of rolling with the punches.”
On how the Browns offense can focus on details in practice when only going against the defense one time this week:
“It is watching film. It is paying attention to all of the film study that the coaching staff has been doing for months and weeks or the history between the coordinators. I think they have a situation going on over there, as well. We are just trying to make sure that we can go out there and do the things that we need to do at a high level and as fast as we can. That has to be in the details of making sure that we have everything squared away.”
On if the Browns have opportunities to get the passing game going this week after playing in consecutive bad weather games:
“We will see. I think we are going to do whatever it takes to win, whether that is on the ground or in the air. We are happy about the weather change for sure. We will see how it goes, but ultimately, we are just going down there to win the game.”
On the Jaguars defense:
“Their front, they can get after you. (Jaguars LB Joe) Schobert, obviously, I have a history of playing with him here. He is a very, very smart player, and he knows pretty much everybody that is on our roster as far as offensively. I am sure he is giving those guys a good gameplan and scouting report against us about who we are as players. It is going to be a challenge, but we are ready for it.”
On the experience this week having short notice on when practices will start and the Browns’ ability to still have sharp practices this week:
“As weird as it may sound, the practice not only that it was quick or shorter, we were able to get in, get in our work and get our conditioning in that it kind of felt like an OTA practice. I think for us and I know for me personally, I really enjoyed that. I really had fun and the guys were having fun at practice. Being that we were not competing against anybody, we were just kind of going through and nurturing our craft. I think that was something that was important that we accomplished early this week.”
On S Ronnie Harrison Jr.:
“He continues to make plays. He is showing up. He is playing through injuries. He is doing all of the things right. He is a great addition to our team. He has made plays for us the day he walked into the building. I know it is going to be like a homecoming for him going back to Jacksonville. Hopefully, he can catch a couple picks and celebrate.”
On playing a lower number of snaps last week and if his injuries are impacting it:
“No, I just think about our personnel and how we try to attack in the weather. With the run game, we felt like we had more benefits in single-receiver sets. We wanted to make sure that we were able to run the ball in that weather and only threw the ball when we had to. On certain plays, it a good mixture of guys that go in and the single receiver just to not have any tendencies. Whether that is me in the game at those times, (WR) KhaDarel (Hodge) or Hig (WR Rashard Higgins), we just have to mix it up to keep the defense off balance so they do not know when guys are out there if we are going to run or pass.”
On if he is OK with not having as many snaps last week:
“Listen, I want to be out on the field every play. I want to be out on the field every play, but like I said, we try not to have tendencies and we try to make sure that we rotate guys in, whether it is being able to give me a blow in a situation or it is allowing a guy who he wants to do some run blocking things with eventually. It is something that we do not want to create a true tendency with so that seems to be a mixture of guys who play during those times.”
On what did Thanksgiving bring to him after this challenging year:
“Just being grateful and being thankful. Life is a blessing. I have had too many people – I am sure people on this call and people around the world – have lost in the blink of an eye. It is a tough thing. You look at life and no matter what you are going through or struggling with, you realize that you have another opportunity and another day. That is a blessing, and I am grateful for that. I am grateful to be able to share that with my family each and every day. Then to come here and be a part of this organization and share with these guys who also I consider as family, I am just grateful, and I am blessed. I hope everybody on this call had a great Thanksgiving, as well.”
On it also being gratifying to be able to play and contribute following his surgery during the offseason:
“It has been, and I am still on that road. I am still on that road, but I am doing everything I can. That bye week really gave me some more life mentally after going damn near 50-60 weeks straight of just rehabbing, training and getting to the feel of practicing and trying to make sure I make the season. Mentally, I was kind of overloaded as well, not just my body wise. I was able to revamp, I guess you can say, a little bit with the bye and get my body into a better place, but I am still not where I want to be. My body is definitely in a better place this week. I would definitely say I had one of the best weeks that I have had so far of practicing.”
