RB Nick Chubb and LB Joe Schobert (12.23.19)

Included below are select quotes from interviews with the following Browns players during today’s media availability:

  • RB Nick Chubb
  • LB Joe Schobert

RB Nick Chubb:

On if the Ravens defended much differently than the previous matchup between the teams:

“They play hard. They played hard against us. You can’t say they did anything differently. It is just they executed well, and they played their tails off.”

On if the Ravens did more to shut down the run yesterday than the first matchup or if that is the same question as the first:

“Yeah, that is the exact same question (laughter). They just played hard.”

On if the Browns have a long way to go to beat the Ravens consistently and to compete for AFC North titles or if there is still a long way to go:
“That is a tough question. It is the NFL. It is tough because everyone is really good team, and it is a week-in and week-out thing. For us to be consistent and be who we are every game because the first game we played them, it was completely different, wad big plays, we made the plays we needed to make and we did a great job on defense. This game, things just did not go our way from that aspect so it is just being the same team every week, week in and week out for 16 weeks and see where you are at the end of the season.”

On if having DE Myles Garrett and DE Olivier Vernon against the Ravens could have made a difference for the team:

“Those guys are great players so it would definitely help some, but it is the next guy up mentality so whoever is in there has to be able to try to at least do the same thing or try to be almost as good.”

On how the experiences for the Browns this season can help the team next year:

“Just motivation. Just knowing how it feels to not be as successful and to lose certain games. To carry that on to the offseason training and just never forget how we feel now and not ever wanting to feel this again. We know what we did this year – things that worked and things that did not work – so just learn from that and next year come in with a different mindset, fix all of the small things and get ready to try again at it.”

LB Joe Schobert:

On when the momentum changed during the game yesterday:

“Yeah, right before the end of the half. Can’t give up two touchdowns like that in under two minutes. It definitely was a buzz kill in terms of momentum.”

On Ravens TE Mark Andrews’ 39-yard touchdown:

“It is just a miscommunication, broken coverage. Nothing that they did, it was just a communication aspect on our part.”

On if he ever considered yesterday that it could have been his last time playing with the Browns at FirstEnergy Stadium:

“Not in the game or not in the moment, no. Just felt like another normal game getting off. When you get home, you think about it. Definitely, it is a possibility, but I do not look to far ahead in the future that way. We will see what happens.”

On Head Coach Freddie Kitchens and his first year as head coach, particularly given speculation about his job security:

“Obviously, Freddie works with the offense a lot more in practice and he is the head coach so I see him in meetings and team meetings and stuff. From my advantage point, Freddie has done everything he said. He said he is going to be a man of his word, and he has always held that true no matter what. If it something about practice, if it is something about a day off after a win or something, he never goes back on his word. He is going to stay true to that. He is going to be up front with you. He is going to tell you the truth, and he is not going to shy away from it. In my aspect, I respect Freddie. He is a good guy like that. I do not know what he is doing with the offense – I do not know all that stuff. I am not getting paid to be upstairs so I have no idea what they are talking about, but from my aspect, Freddie has been what he said he is going to be and that means he is a man of his word.”
