WHAT: Prior to Friday’s Cleveland Browns High School Game of the Week – featuring Ellet and Lutheran East High Schools – the Browns and Akron Public Schools will celebrate the installation of the high-quality synthetic turf field at Ellet High School.
This offseason, the Browns began installing high-quality synthetic turf at Boys Hope Girls Hope of Northeastern Ohio and Ellet High School, the eighth and ninth multi-sport playing fields funded since summer 2016 through the Browns’ and Dee and Jimmy Haslams’ commitment to education and youth football. The new multi-use field will serve as a resource to further engage students throughout the district and will also be available to other youth and groups in the local community.
The Cleveland Browns High School Game of the Week (HSGOTW) has returned this fall for the 10th consecutive year, presented by Ohio Cat and in association with Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM). Since the program began, more than eight million votes have been submitted for weekly matchups posted on ClevelandBrowns.com, making the Game of the Week page one of the most visited pages on ClevelandBrowns.com. In addition to a special game profile on the team’s website, the winning team receives a $2,500 contribution to their high school football program on behalf of the Browns, Ohio Cat and LECOM, in addition to each winning coach being nominated for High School Coach of the Year and the opportunity to receive an additional $5,000.
Last year, Lorain City School District’s George Daniel Field and Toledo’s Roy C. Start High School received new high-quality synthetic turf fields to accommodate multiple male and female high school sports and other programs at each school.
In 2016, the Haslams announced a commitment to provide five Cleveland Metropolitan School District fields with high-quality synthetic turf through a two-year project. Roye Kidd Stadium, James F. Rhodes Stadium and Bump Taylor Stadium were renovated prior to the 2016 high school football season, while John Adams High School and John Marshall High School were updated prior to the 2017 campaign.
The Browns donate all of the team’s net proceeds from items purchased in the Browns FirstEnergy Stadium Pro Shop to support Browns Give Back’s commitment to education and youth football, including to benefit educational initiatives and additional neighborhood fields projects.
Through Browns Give Back, the Cleveland Browns are dedicated to #give10 through the team’s First and Ten initiative.
