DE Myles Garrett (12.15.22)
On Ravens T Ronnie Stanley’s performance last week:
“He looked polished and technically sound. I think he is a little bit of a different athlete coming back from the injury. It is still going to take him time to get back to where he was. At least you need an offseason to get himself prepared. He seemed in the flow of the game, but seeing that and then preparing for it and being able to stack those upon each other. He is still definitely a top tackle.”
On having a significant number of sacks in recent weeks and potentially still being in consideration for NFL Defensive Player of the Year:
“I would like to think that I am in the thick of it. There are four games left, and there is no reason why I can’t be at the top of the sack leaderboard. I am going to keep on continuing to play at a high level and with high effort and give the most to these guys. At the end of the day, whatever is said and done, I gave it my all for my guys.”
On leading AFC DEs in Pro Bowl voting:
“It feels like this year it is stacked all over the board with D ends who are playing at a very high level. To lead that group, it means a lot. It is not guaranteed that I am able to do that, especially coming off of the injury that I have. Being able to still come back, perform at a high level and help win games, all of that means a lot.”
On if he flashed back to his sack-fumble when watching film of Ravens QB Tyler Huntley:
“I would like to get my hand on the ball again. Not just a strip-sack, I would like to take it to the endzone to be more specific. Yes, I see a little bit of opportunity. If he is giving us one, the mindset is always go get another one. Why not? If it is not me, free someone else to do it and allow ourselves to put ourselves in position to win on defense. You don’t always have to put it in the special teams’ or the offense’s hands. You can go out and win it yourself. If they do not score, they do not win.”
On recollections from Huntley in last year’s game:
“He is fast. He is elusive. He is a lot of things that (Ravens QB) Lamar (Jackson) is really. He just needs a little bit more polish. I think can be that capable of a player if he gets a chance somewhere. It just felt like you were trying to chase down a chicken like doused in honey or something. He shook me. He shook JD (DE Jadeveon Clowney). Took down one of the Maliks (former Browns DTs Malik Jackson and Malik McDowell) and then another play got the other Malik (laughter). It was ridiculous. It was all in like a two-play span. The guy is athletically one of the top guys in the league. Just have to be prepared for that, try to keep him in the pocket like we would Lamar and treat him with a lot of respect.”
On the Ravens QBs having similar traits and abilities to run the offense:
“They have like three different guys who fit that Lamar build. They have a type, as they would say. They are able to plug and play just because those guys are very athletic, able to throw the ball down the field, elusive, able to escape the pocket and extend plays, just Lamar does it the best that we have seen in the league.”
